Thomas Murray
Gordon
Nov 10, 1970 — Jul 12, 2023
Thomas M. Gordon, affectionately "Tommy", passed away on July 12th, 2023 at the age
of 52. Thomas was born in Miami and lived in different parts of Florida throughout his childhood
and adolescence; as a young man, his passion for cooking led him through completing his
Associates Degree in Culinary Arts from Florida Gateway College in Lake City, FL. He found his
calling as a Chef and a Food and Beverage Manager, beloved by his immediate staff. In his last
year he relocated enthusiastically to Charleston, SC where he could spend extensive time with
family.
In addition to a love of the culinary arts, Thomas was an avid golfer and a devoted
Florida State Seminoles fan, and aside from the game, the tailgate spent with family and friends
was always his most treasured part. He was a loyal member of the American Poolplayers
Association for the past 12 years, and he traveled to Las Vegas finals tournaments as captain of
several different teams. Thomas was most happy being surrounded by his small circle, sharing
food, engaging in thought-provoking conversation, and setting the tone with great music. A man
of few material possessions, Tommy lived to create vivid memories and long-lasting experiences
with his loved ones.
In his joyous final year, he achieved his goal of living in Charleston, SC near his sons
and daughter-in-law, and it brought him the greatest fulfillment to be able to share meaningful
time with them. He fell in love with and cherished his relationship with Marla Chalfie of Mount
Pleasant, SC and their time together illuminated his days with positivity and adventure.
Thomas is survived by: his two sons, Jordan M. Gordon and wife Louise of Charleston,
SC; Todd J. Gordon of Summerville, SC and their mother Candace Sheridan of Tallahassee,
Florida; his brother Christopher Stephen Gordon, wife Amy and his nieces, Emily and Abigail of
Longview, TX . He is preceded in death by parents Carolyn Ann (Stephens) of Chattahoochee,
FL and Thomas Murray Gordon Sr.
To share in his memory and celebrate his life, the family will hold a memorial on
Saturday, August 19th, from 12pm-2pm at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in the Ballroom located at
55 Wentworth Street, Charleston, SC, 29401. Attendees will find adjacent parking at Palmetto
Parking Garage at 69 Wentworth, Street, Charleston, SC, 29401. In lieu of flowers, donations
can be made under "Thomas Gordon" at the American Heart Association or to Tunnel to Towers
Foundation, an established and loyal partnership of the American Poolplayers Association
