Stephen Joseph
Lynch
Feb 28, 1938 — May 22, 2023
Stephen Joseph Lynch, Jr. 85, of Mount Pleasant, SC passed away peacefully on May 22, 2023, surrounded by his family. His legacy of kindness, love of family and incredible sense of humor will carry on in the hearts of those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Lorraine Marie Lynch, and brothers, Fr. John Lynch and David C. Lynch.
Steve was born in Erie, PA on February 28, 1938 to the late Stephen, Sr. and Sara (Larson) Lynch. Following 8 years of service in the U.S. Navy Reserves, Steve established his career as a Printer for the Erie Times, where he worked for over 33 years before retiring in 1999. He was an avid runner, participating in 27 marathons across the country, with a special affection for the New York City Marathon.
Above all, Steve was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. After meeting the love of his life, Lorraine, at a dance, they married in 1961 and built a life blending their large, extended families as one. They joyfully hosted and attended countless family picnics and celebrations which he referred to as the happiest times of his life. They adventurously took many family vacations, with a special love for Disney and Hawaii. He was immensely proud of his sons, supporting them in all their athletics and life endeavors.
Following retirement, Steve and Lorraine moved to Mount Pleasant, where Steve relished golfing with his sons, boating with his family, and doting on his granddaughter at every moment he could. He remained a steadfast friend and voice of encouragement to all members of his family throughout his life.
Steve is survived by his sons David Lynch (Andrea) of Charleston, SC and Michael Lynch (Lauren) of Mount Pleasant, SC; granddaughter Sarah Lynch of Summerville, SC; brothers Ronnie Lynch of Seabrook, TX and James Lynch of Denver, CO; sister-in-law Patricia Golis of Erie, PA and dozens of nieces and nephews. A private celebration of Steve's life will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steve's honor to the charity of one's choice.
