Ronnie (Ron) Leo Horoky , age 84, peacefully passed away on January 29, 2023, at his daughter's home in Mt. Pleasant, SC after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Ron was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and graduated from Assumption College Catholic High School. He moved to Detroit, Michigan, and briefly attended the University of Detroit before enlisting in the US Air Force. After completing basic training at Lackland AFB, Ron was trained at Lowry AFB, Colorado where he became a firefighter. Ron then deployed to Albrook AFB, Canal Zone, in Panama where he was a fire protection specialist and participated in search and rescue. During his time in Panama, Ron also played semi-professional baseball for the Albrook AFB Flyers. Ron became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1961.
Ron moved to Elkhart, Indiana with his family and worked in sales management for over 50 years, mainly in the RV and automotive industry. Prior to his move to South Carolina in late 2020, he worked part-time at Harold Zeigler Ford and as a starter at Black Squirrel Golf Club on the weekends. He was a founding member of Concord Little League and coached baseball for many years. He was also an avid golfer and played whenever he could. Ron was a huge University of Notre Dame and Detroit Lions fan and watched football games every weekend.
Ron is survived by his four children: Tania Hillmer and her husband Bill, Jennifer Evers and her husband Mitch, Christopher Horoky and his wife Jenny, and Kevin Horoky and his wife Jen; Six grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Gracie, Connor, Zach, and Roman; and his former spouse Claudia.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents Leo and Mary (Hawryluk) Horoky and his brother Larry Horoky.
The funeral service will be held at 11 am on February 24, 2023, at St. Benedict Catholic Church950 Darrell Creek Trail, Mt Pleasant, SC 29466 followed by a luncheon at the church. Interment will occur at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Cemetery in Windsor, Ontario. A celebration of life is also being planned in Elkhart, IN at a later date.
