Ronald Charles Schongar Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

Ronald Charles Schongar, 79, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025.

Born in Troy, New York, Ron was the son of Charles and Emily (Lake) Schongar. He was a retired engineer who spent his career in New York before moving to South Carolina with his beloved wife of 43 years, Kathleen Espey.

First and foremost, Ron adored his wife, Kathleen, and treasured every moment with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Courtney (Schongar) Beach and her husband, Jason; his son, Christopher Schongar; and his two grandchildren, Jacob and Savannah Beach, who were the light of his life. He also leaves behind his best friend and "honorary uncle" to his children, Richard Kretovich.

Ron loved nothing more than being with his grandchildren. He attended their school and sporting events, cheered them on, and never missed a chance to spoil them rotten. He also loved fixing anything and everything around the house (even if he wasn't always the cleanest handyman). An avid reader, he devoured mystery and history books and found joy in life's little misadventures. His family will forever cherish memories of being chased by a moose in Maine, getting kites stuck on hotel rooftops in Hampton Beach, bears clawing the RV in the middle of the night and somehow getting lost in the Nevada desert.

A celebration of Ron's life will be held at a later date with his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.

Ron will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his humor, loyalty, and the love he gave so freely.
