Robert Tempel Miller, fondly known as “Foz/Bobby/Bob”, 62, of Pinckney, Michigan and Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away in Charleston, South Carolina, on Saturday evening, October 31, 2026, after an unexpected heart attack. Robert was an adoring husband, father, beloved son, precious brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and son-in-law. He was a smily, fun-loving, nurturing, gentle, and adventurous man who brought so much positivity to the people around him. His special soul and memory will forever be a blessing.
Bob was born to parents Hap Sidney Miller and Mary Ruth Miller in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, on March 21, 1964. Growing up an Army Brat, he went to many schools and high schools around the country, but he graduated from Fairfax High School in Fairfax, Virginia, in 1983. He played football, baseball, loved sailing, was a West Pointe ski instructor, and much more during his adolescence.
Robert served 4 years in the United States Air Force. He then went on to earn his BSEE focused in Electrical Engineering - Control Systems from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. That is where he met the love of his life, Iris Ruan Miller. They were college sweethearts and married in the Manly Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington, Virginia, on June 17, 1995. They were later blessed to raise two beautiful daughters, Katelyn and Myra.
During college, he was also involved with Sigma Chi Fraternity. Bob fostered a great love and bond with many of his brothers. He was also a hired photographer, regularly covering fraternity events, weddings, and more. He ran the university’s photo lab, was the school newspaper photographer, and absolutely excelled at it all.
Robert was an experienced business development manager with a demonstrated history of working in the automotive industry. Skilled in Embedded Software, operations management, nonprofit organizations, humanitarian, and engineering team management, he exemplified what leadership, hard work, and grit truly means. He worked most loyally for Vector North America for 22 years.
Bob enjoyed spending time with family and friends, making people smile and feel special, sunset boat cruises, beach walks with his wife, listening to diverse genres of music, disc golf and darts, billiards, and fixing everything, The Lake and Deer Run Farm, and endlessly tinkering away at everything that interested him.
Robert was preceded in death by Sidney and Eileen Miller (paternal grandparents), Carl and Ruth Tempel (maternal grandparents), ZongLiang Ruan (father-in-law), and Bill Miller (uncle).
Bob is survived by his wife Iris, daughters Katelyn and Myra, parents Hap and Mary, mother-in-law FuYing Zhang, sister Jeannie Miller and brother-in-law Phil Schroeder, sister-in-law XiaoFang Ruan and brother-in-law YiMeng Ling, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members, including but not limited to more Miller’s; Tempel’s; Atwood’s; Ling’s; Boosinger’s; and Stribling’s. He will be dearly missed by his beloved and treasured pets Ducky (dog), Mimo and Leo (cats), and countless furry friends throughout his life.
Robert didn’t meet a stranger who he didn’t become friends with. He always wanted to help everyone, enrich the countless communities he belonged to (Ypsi-Dubs Discgolf community, Hi-Land Lake community), be there for his neighbors, and find any way he could make the world a better place. He embodied the kindness of God. He was a light, and his light continues to shine down on every person he touched.
Bob had a lot of sayings, but he frequently said, “You have no control over others; you can only control yourself.” He leaves a lasting legacy of everything a person should give: positivity, perseverance, and thoughtfulness to anyone but especially family and friends. Bob was a friend to all walks of life and always a source of inspiration to everyone blessed enough to meet him. As we remember, mourn, and celebrate Robert’s life, let us honor his blessed and powerful memory by carrying forward his legacy of kindness, making our world more loving and filled with peace.
His memorial service will be held at Manly Memorial Church in Lexington, Virginia, on November 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM. His reception will be after the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, we ask all to honor Robert by being more like Robert. Have fun with life, be helpful and kind, and “Make Every Day A Masterpiece.”
