Obituary

Penelope "Penny" M. Hyland

Born June 20, 1946 in New York City to Mona and Donald Dean. Penny attended Catholic Grammar School together with Mrs. Woods School of Etiquette and continued her higher education at George Washington High School. When the children entered school, Penny continued her education at Ocean County College.
During high school, Penny worked at Met Life and continued working at the Met upon graduation from GW. One summer night in 1966, Penny met and fell for the one person she would never date: an Irish college frat boy. Penny and Tim were married on September 30, 1967 and celebrated their 58th Anniversary last September. From this union two children were born, Christine and Timothy.
Penny excelled in the role of mother, grandmother and great grandmother with Mom Mom and Gigi her special nicknames. One of Penny's specialties was hosting tea parties for her daughter and granddaughters. In 1981 Tim received a promotion that had the family move to Europe, residing in the Netherlands. While there Penny became very involved with her church, the American Women's Club, the International Women's Club and the American Baseball Foundation of The Hague. Penny took on positions of responsibility to include the Woman's Day of Prayer, the annual Community Dinner at The Peace Palace of The Hague and most importantly the Manager of the girls softball team, The Mets! In addition, Penny was an accomplished hostess, setting the best table together with serving some excellent meals. Penny's friend, Brenda made a deal with her whereby Penny would set Brenda's table for formal dinners and Brenda would make desserts for Penny's dinners; a win, win for all!
On the return to the states, Penny became a section manager with MBI. Upon moving to Rochester Penny was promoted to Senior Account Manager at Citi Bank, Student Loans Division and after relocating to Charleston, Realtor with Century 21.
Penny was predeceased by her parents and siblings Russell and Larry.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Tim, daughter Christine and son, Tim (Heather), Grandchildren Courtney (Rob), Meagan (Jav), Emily, Maura (Matthew), James (Paige), Great-Grandchildren Chloe and Elianna, sister Michele (Ed) Craig, sister-in-law, Maureen Begina, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will have a Memorial Service in the future and donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
