Mt. Pleasant, SC – Patricia "Pat" Freeman Cohan, 90, peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025. She was born April 8, 1934 in Chatahoochee, FL to the late Robert Monroe Freeman and Wilma Mae Whiddon Freeman.
Pat grew up in Charlotte, NC and graduated from Charlotte Technical High in 1952. There she was a majorette, class president, on student council, Y-Teens president, delegate to Girls' State, in honor society, and more. An avid dancer, she combined that with ice-skating to be a member of the Ice Capettes entertainment at the Charlotte Checkers hockey games. She participated in several beauty contests and won Miss American Legion.
Pat married Atlanta-native Foster B. Cohan in 1957, moved to cities around the South, and finally to Mt. Pleasant, SC in 2019 to be near her daughter Celia Fenolietto. She and Foster traveled throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Bermuda, and the Caribbean.
In the early 1960's, she enjoyed being secretary to the Dean of Students at Converse College in Spartanbug, SC. Then moving to Charleston, SC in 1964, she started the city's first Junior Women's Club, was a real estate agent, and the sales manager of the historic Fort Sumter Hotel by "Battery Park" (White Point Gardens) where she organized events, weddings, and business conventions. Returning to Charlotte from 1970-1974, she was the sales manager of two large convention hotels. In the 1970s-1990s, in Lynchburg, VA she was a Graduate of the Realtors Institute (GRI), an award-winning Century 21 real estate broker, on the Lynchburg Board of Realtors, president of the Ivy Hill Ladies Golf Assoc., sang in the choir at Forest United Methodist Church, and volunteered at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
After her husband died in 1987 and then retiring in the 1990s, she returned to Charlotte from 2000-2019 to be near family and old friends, was a founding member of the Windsor Oaks Social Assoc., and an active member of the monthly Tech High Lunch Bunch.
She moved in 2019 to Mt. Pleasant, SC outside of Charleston to be near her daughter, son-in-law, and two granddaughters.
Pat was a fun, sassy, spirited Southern lady who enjoyed dancing, golf, travel, club leaderships, volunteer organizations, family, and life-long friendships.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Foster B. Cohan, and her sister Loretta Freeman Kennington (Curt) of Charlotte. She is survived by her daughter Celia Cohan Fenolietto, son-in-law Richard Fenolietto, and two granddaughters Michele and Christine Fenolietto of Mt. Pleasant; also three nieces and their families: Sherri Fagan (Bob) and Kristi Hall (Brian) of the Charlotte area, and Kathy Davis (Russell) of Galax, VA. A private family memorial will be held for her in Charlotte, and her ashes will be buried with her husband at Virginia Memorial Park in Forest, VA
