Obituary

Nancy Louise Cotter, 95, of Mount Pleasant, SC, formerly of Palm Harbor, FL and Attleboro Falls, MA, passed away peacefully on November 22nd, 2024 with her family by her side. Nancy was born June 9th, 1929 in Clinton, Massachusetts to Alfred and Florence (Gutman) Baer. She spent her early years living in several places in southeastern Massachusetts with her parents and two older sisters.

Nancy met the love of her life, Daniel Cotter, of Franklin, MA, enjoying a "first date" at a dance on Valentine's Day. Nancy and Dan were married on June 27th, 1953, after Dan's discharge from the US Army. They later welcomed their daughter, Marsha Ann, and son, Mark Daniel.

Nancy had a variety of jobs throughout her life, including telephone operator, baker in the school cafeteria, and in customer service at the Foxboro Company where Dan also worked for many years. Once the kids moved south, Nancy and Dan followed, first to Woodstock, GA then eventually to Palm Harbor, FL where they lived for many years, enjoying the retired life. They also traveled numerous times, with an especially noteworthy trip to Germany to visit Augsburg where Dan was stationed in the Army. They also made several trips to Texas for reunions with Dan's Army buddies and their families, and also enjoyed an Alaskan cruise with longtime friends. Several years after Dan passed away, Nancy moved to Mount Pleasant, SC to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, where she lived her remaining years.

Family was always most important to Nancy, as evidenced by her willingness to have her father live with her family in his later years, and also the many leadership roles she took on, mostly involved with her children's activities. She was very involved with the Falls Community Association in Attleboro Falls, MA, as well as assisting with Rainbow Girls and the high school band booster club. Nancy was a great homemaker and cook and took great pride in her home.

She was also extremely proud of her two grandchildren, Emily and William, and her great grandson, Alex. Nothing made her brighter than having them visit, or seeing their pictures, or catching up on their lives. One of her great joys was meeting Alex for the first time this past July.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Marsha (Jim) Callahan, of Mount Pleasant, SC; her son, Mark (Laura) Cotter, of Longmont, CO; and her grandchildren, Emily Arts (Andy) of Austin, TX, and William Cotter (Jessica) of Wellington, CO; and of course, great grandson, Alex Arts. She is also survived by her older sister, Natalie Sewell, of Westboro, MA.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marian Sewell; and her beloved husband, Dan.

Nancy will be interred with Dan at the National Cemetery in Bourne MA at a future date.
