Matthew Gardner Pontius, 43, of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away on August 19, 2025, after a courageous battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative illness.

Born in Weymouth, MA, Matt grew up in Howard County, MD, and spent summers in Charleston, SC — both places that shaped his adventurous spirit. He graduated from the College of Charleston in 2004 and built a successful career in wealth management, known for his integrity, intelligence, and care for others.

Matt was a devoted husband, a proud and loving father, and a vibrant soul who lived life with joy and passion. He shared his love of travel, food, music, and the outdoors with his family. Whether strumming a guitar, grilling a perfect meal, or planning the next adventure, Matt poured his heart into every moment.

Matt is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa, and their three children: Lyla, Miles, and Levi. He is also survived by his parents, Mary (Tom) Brindisi and Mike (Lydia) Pontius; his half-brothers, Tom Brindisi and Mark (Kristin) Brindisi; his parents-in-law, Victor and Katherine Lazarovici; sister in-law, Sarah (husband John) Shiner and Carrie Lazarovici; and his nieces and nephews: Brooke and Jack Shiner, and Luke and Julia Brindisi. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pontius Family Fund or the CJD Foundation .

Matt's warmth, laughter, and light will be carried in the hearts of all who knew him.
