Mark Tristram Wansley, 67, of Charleston, South Carolina formally of Greenville, SC passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at his sister's home in Hospice care with his family by his side after a bravely fought 2-year battle with cancer.
Mark was born February 25, 1956 in Augusta Georgia, son of the late, Hampton Pearson (Bud) Wansley and Jacqueline (Jackie) Smith Wansley. He is survived by his sister, Sarah Wansley Kilpatrick (Bill) of Charleston, South Carolina.
He is s also survived by his nieces, Emily R. Hairfield (Benjy) and Ashley R. Strange (Paul) both of Charleston, South Carolina, 2 great nieces, Taylor Katherine Strange and McKenna Grace Hairfield, one great nephew, Hudson Lane Strange, one aunt, Johnsie Blocker Smith, one uncle, Jacob Nathaniel (Peter) Smith, Jr., numerous cousins, and his good friend Raymond Gaudreau. He was predeceased by his parents.
He graduated from JL Mann High School. Afterwards, he attended Presbyterian College on a football scholarship, then transferred to The University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy where he earned his degree. Mark was a pharmacist for over 35 years owning numerous pharmacies in Greenville, SC and working in other pharmacies throughout his career before retiring. He helped many of his customers and was always willing to go the extra mile for them. In retirement he moved to Charleston to be near family and bought property in Adams Run and built a house to live out his retirement years with his good friend Ray. He was an avid deer hunter bagging many trophy bucks. He was also an avid fisherman and sports fan. He loved the Phillies, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers. Jeopardy was also a favorite and something he rarely missed—and he rarely missed a clue.
Mark cherished his family and numerous friends. He never met a stranger. Mark will always be remembered for his tall tales, wit, big heart and numerous sayings. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. In the end he would say "Shorty Says Everybody Take a Drank!" Cheers to a life well lived but cut way too short.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mark's name may be made to Crescent Hospice Care, 4401 Belle Oaks Drive, Suite 105, Charleston, SC 29405 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741. A celebration of life will be held in Greenville at a later date. Arrangements are being made by Charleston Cremation Center.
