Margaret Kay Scranton, lovingly known as Peggy and Maggie, 76, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on March 30, 2026, after a courageous year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Arrangements are by Charleston Cremation Center.

Maggie was born on April 24, 1949, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to M. E. "Bud" Scranton and Betty Jane Hutcheson Scranton.

Maggie wished to be remembered as someone who devoted her life to caring for others. She served faithfully in healthcare as a CNA, Telemetry Technician, and later as a Registered Nurse. After graduating from nursing school in 2006, she worked with hospice and retirement communities until April 2025. Her compassion and gentle spirit touched countless lives. Even during her own illness, Maggie continued to give of herself, offering comfort and care to those around her.

Maggie had a creative and generous heart. She enjoyed weaving during her years in Montana and Asheville, North Carolina, where she was a member of a local weavers guild. She followed Prem Rawat for many years and was actively involved in his foundation and with Peace Is Possible NC in Asheville. Over this past year, Maggie lovingly created prayer shawls and many potholders, rediscovering her passion for weaving and design. Each piece was given as a gift to family, friends, and caregivers—a reflection of her gratitude and love.

She was preceded in death by her common-law husband, William H. Bryant, and her beloved cats, Sulli and Mimi, who brought her great comfort and companionship.

Maggie is survived by her sister, Carol Wines; her nieces and nephew, Paul (Heather) Cheesman, Debbie (Jim) Doyle, and Alison (Michael) Ward; her grandnieces and grandnephews, Alex Cheesman, Brandon (Savanna) Cheesman, Hunter Doyle, Peyton Doyle, Michaela Ward, and Watts Ward; and many dear friends who will cherish her memory.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Maggie's honor to MUSC Hollings Cancer Center , Agape Hospice Care through The Carnation Foundation , or Peace Is Possible NC .

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 2, at 2pm at Seacoast Church, 750 Long Point Rd, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, 29464.  All are welcome.  Live stream will be available - contact carolw2006@comcast.net for the link to join.

Maggie's life was a beautiful reflection of compassion, generosity, and quiet strength—her love will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
