With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Judith Anne (Arado) Walker—affectionately known as Jude—on October 25, 2024, in Charleston, South Carolina.

Born on May 6, 1944, in Chicago to August and Anne Arado, Jude lived a life that was a beautiful reflection of her energy, curiosity, and passion for human potential. A natural writer and editor, she graduated from Mother McAuley High School in 1962, went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, and completed a Master of Arts in Education from Trinity College. Jude also pursued a Master of Arts in Psychology from Catholic University, a testament to her deep interest in understanding the human mind.

As a child, Jude found joy in family gatherings at her grandfather Joseph LaMantia's estate in St. Joseph, Michigan. These cherished summers by the lakeshore continued as she grew older, creating lasting memories with her own children, siblings and many nieces and nephews along the shores of Lake Michigan.

Jude's professional life was marked by her intelligence, work ethic, and leadership. Over 20 years, she rose through the ranks at Smithbucklin Corporation, eventually serving as Executive Vice President, where she was responsible for the healthcare business unit. She was a mentor and guide to many, leaving a lasting impact on the organizations she served.

Though she retired in 2004, Jude's drive never waned. Her close friend, Jim Zaniello, coaxed her back into the workforce in 2010 at Vetted Solutions, an executive search firm. Jude thrived there, her curiosity, eye for talent, and love for connection always fueling her work. Her career, however, was only one facet of her rich and diverse life.

A passionate student of human potential, Jude's personal library was a reflection of her endless quest to understand and unlock the possibilities within each of us. Her fascination with the power of the mind led her to become a Certified Hypnotherapist, where she helped others harness their inner strength. She believed deeply in the capacity for growth and transformation, a belief she instilled in her children and those who had the privilege to know her.

Her love of beauty and vitality was evident in all aspects of her life. Whether she was gardening, transforming her home into a masterpiece of warmth and style, or exploring antique shops for unique treasures, Jude approached life with a radiant, youthful energy. She had a special touch with plants, filling her home with greenery and life, and her creative spirit shone through in everything she did.

Jude found her true home in South Carolina, eventually settling in downtown Charleston and later along the Ashley River. The region captured her heart with its charm, warm weather, and her love for American history. Reuniting with her cousin Marilyn, who lived nearby, made it all the more special. Jude always displayed the American flag at her doorstep, a symbol of her deep love for her country and the values of freedom and independence that she held so dear.

Jude's interest in personal growth led her to pursue her pilot's license, a bold and determined step that spoke to her fearless spirit. Whether soaring above the earth or walking along the shores of the Ashley River, Jude embraced life with grace, humor, and boundless enthusiasm.

Above all, Jude was a loving mother and role model to her three children, Erin Walker, Jeff Walker, and Terra Walker; a devoted sister to John Arado, Ginny Arado Salvaggio, and Jan Arado; and a cherished grandmother to her six grandchildren. She shared a deep and special bond with her partner, William Harrison, and his children, William and Lacy, whom she held close to her heart. Jude also leaves behind her beloved cat, Chloe, who was a constant companion.

Her journey with cancer was met with courage and an unwavering commitment to healing. Jude found peace in her faith in Jesus Christ, surrounded by the prayers and love of many. She remained a beacon of strength, supported by her dedicated physician, Shannon Kennedy, MD, whose care was a source of great comfort.

Jude's life was a testament to resilience, love, and faith. She leaves behind a legacy of beauty, creativity, and an enduring belief in the capacity for growth. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

Her family will celebrate her life privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Charleston Parks Conservancy and Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Jude's memory.
