Obituary

Joseph O "Joe" Salsich, age 72, born August 14, 1951, passed away peacefully at home on September 16, 2023, in Mount Pleasant, SC.  He was surrounded by family and friends, as he was his entire life. His wife and best friend, Mary, three children Joe, Julia and Annie, their spouses, Jenn, Brandon and Tommy, six grandchildren, Cal, Gately, Ward, Addy, Josie & Marley, 8 siblings and their families, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends will all miss him dearly.

Joe battled Parkinson's Disease for over twenty-five years. His disease never stopped him, and he never complained. He traveled the world, but his favorite place was with family & friends at the beach, Alder Creek, Annapolis, St. Louis and lastly South Carolina.

Joe loved singing, playing and listening to music. Some of his last words were singing along with family to the words Sloop John B by the Beach Boys. He was an athlete and avid sports enthusiast. Sailor, biker, fisherman, golfer or playing with any ball at all. He beamed when watching and coaching his kids, then his grandkids. He was a lifelong Cardinal baseball fan and a PSL season ticket holder for the Baltimore Ravens but avidly enjoyed watching all sports.

His adventurous life included sailing the Mississippi River from St. Louis to New Orleans with high school friends, navigating a Coast Guard icebreaker to the North Pole and South Pole, and countless adventures throughout his life. With his Naval Architect and Ocean Engineering degrees from MIT he spent his professional life designing and redesigning ships from the DC area. His love of sailing came from his dad, Pete. Together they designed, built and sailed several boats.

There will be celebrations of his life this fall in SC, this summer in STL and on his birthday in Alder Creek.

His courage, grace and perseverance battling Parkinson's is an inspiration to us all. Therefore, please help find a cure. Consider a donation to TeamSalsich on the Parkinson's Foundation website under Fundraiser/Salsich.
