John Peter "Jack" McDermott entered into eternal rest surrounded by his family on May 27, 2022. Jack was born in Syracuse, NY on December 20, 1936. He served in the Army, wed Patricia Elaine "Patti" Kalenack on August 25, 1962 and, together, they raised two daughters. Jack worked for the USPS in Mt. Pleasant before retiring and working at Harris Teeter, brightening customers' days. He loved sports, played baseball in his youth, and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Jack was devoutly Roman Catholic, a Cursillista, and a parishioner at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church. He was a 4th Degree Knight and an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as the Mt. Pleasant 9475 Grand Knight from 1993-1994.

Jack is survived by his wife, Patti, daughter Amy McDermott Ord (Mathew) of Murfeesboro, TN, Maureen Erin Leeper (Chris) of Summerville, SC, granddaughter, Mary Patricia Ord, TN; sisters Alice Rita Costello (Thomas) of Syracuse, NY and Marilyn Sheatz of Casselberry, FL, as well as several nieces and nephews to whom he was affectionately known as "Uncle Jackie". He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard F., Sr. and Alice Resch McDermott, his sister June Cecil, and brothers, Bernard Jr, Patrick, and Robert.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Sullivan's Island, SC on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the building fund at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church.
