Obituary

Jerry Wayne Gowdy, 64, of North Charleston, South Carolina, formerly a Sandusky native, passed away on July 31, 2024. He is now home and at peace in the hands of the Lord.

Jerry's Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. There will be no visitation.

Jerry was born in Sandusky, Ohio on February 12, 1959, to Jo Eaststreet and Cynthia Mae Gowdy.

Jerry retired as an assembler for Ventra after 9 years. He worked as a transporter for the veterans in his area for the last year. He enjoyed fishing, Nascar, karaoke, Texas Longhorns, and his Cleveland Browns. He loved pets, Dr. Doolittle, too many. He was also actively involved in helping other fellow veterans as much as he could. Jerry would give you the shirt from his back and always had a big heart to help others. Jerry had an infectious laugh and would light up any room. He loved his family and loved family gatherings.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Jo Eaststreet; his mother, Cynthia Mae Gowdy; and his brother, John W. Robinson.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Michelle (Baby); daughters, Liza (Will) Moreland, Charita Brown, both living in Georgia, and JaNay Jones from Sandusky; his sons, Demetrius (Casey) Washington of Elyria, OH and Jack McCray of Texas; his sisters, Jeannette (Rudy) Agee of Sandusky, Debbie Gowdy of New Jersey, Mary Rice of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Susie Gowdy of Columbus, Ohio; and several beautiful, loving nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to his wife, Michelle Gowdy, so she may help local veterans in need of extra help as Jerry would do.
