Jean Craig Brakefield, 82, entered into the presence of her Lord on August 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

A memorial service celebrating Jean's life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 12 21st Avenue, Isle of Palms, South Carolina, on Saturday, August 8. Family and friends are invited to gather in the Narthex at 2:30 p.m., with the memorial service beginning at 3:00 p.m.

A second memorial service will be held at Providence Baptist Church, 51 Providence Road, Orangeburg, South Carolina, on Sunday, August 9, at 2:00 p.m.

Born on May 25, 1944, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Jean was the daughter of the late Marion Barbara Craig and Belva McFadden Craig. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Marion Craig and Pat Craig, and is survived by her brother, Donnie Craig.

Jean shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, James D. Brakefield. Together they owned and operated convenience stores in Columbia and Calhoun County, a gift shop, and a restaurant, building a life centered on family, faith, and hard work.

Jean loved cooking, traveling, and, most of all, her family. She had a gracious spirit and a way of making people feel special. She accepted everyone just as they were, and whether it was quietly paying for a stranger's groceries or offering a kind word, people walked away feeling seen, valued, and genuinely cared for.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, James D. Brakefield; her daughters, Patricia Brakefield and Teresa Brakefield Lemmy (Simon Lemmy); her granddaughters, Gina Brakefield and Elizabeth Brakefield; her great-granddaughter, Miranda Moore; and Teresa and Simon's daughters, Abbie Lemmy Molten (Ryan Molten), Emily Lemmy, and Rachel Lemmy. She was especially blessed to welcome her newest great-granddaughter, Mila Molten.

Jean was a member of First United Methodist Church of Isle of Palms. Her faith in God quietly shaped the way she lived and the way she loved others.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First United Methodist Church of Isle of Palms or Providence Baptist Church.

Jean will be remembered for her gentle heart, her gracious spirit, and the way she made people feel loved. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her family.
