Obituary

Loving pets and family are left behind, but our Greg has crossed that rainbow bridge. The father, musician, artist, and animal lover passed away Aug 26 after a brief illness.

Gregory Birt Geddings was born to Corrine Hiers Geddings and William R. Geddings Sr. on Aug. 30, 1949, in Columbia, SC. He lived in Hanahan, SC until his passing.

Greg was a graduate of Airport High School Class of 1967 (West Columbia), and he earned a degree in history from the University of South Carolina in 1972.

Throughout his life, Greg held varied roles and professions. He was a social worker, guitar teacher, band member, truck driver, and neon sign creator. He was owner/operator of a music store in Charleston, SC for two decades. As an extremely talented musician, Greg could pick up any instrument and play it beautifully. In later years he was a book reseller, an online cartoonist, and an animal rescuer. Greg loved to help others, and he devoted countless hours caring for his beloved adopted dogs and cats.

Greg is survived by his daughters, who were the apples of his eye, Melissa Holtz (Bryan) and Corianne Mielko (Michael). He also leaves behind two siblings, William R. Geddings, Jr. and Jan Geddings Surratt, and his former wife and lifelong friend Leslie Martileno Lungaleno. Greg absolutely adored his grandchildren Liam Holtz and Ebony Holtz, and he always remembered Baby A, who he cared for several years to ensure the toddler was clean, fed, and loved. That is just the kind of wonderful person Greg was.

Greg will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and furry friends. Those who wish to may make a memorial gift in his memory to your favorite animal rescue center.
