Gregory David Forshay, 66, of Bloomingdale, New Jersey and Randolph, New
Jersey, passed away on May 9, 2025, after fighting a battle with
Frontotemporal Degeneration for nearly 8 years. He was surrounded by his loved ones.
Greg, better known as "Babe" to his wife, "Daddy" to his daughters, and
"Gampa" to his grandchildren, was born January 5, 1959 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, the son of David and Iris Forshay (Moressi). He grew up with 3 siblings, Maureen, Donna, and Tim. Greg was active in both sports and theatre, a Boy Scout, and a lifeguard on Kearfott Lake. He graduated from Butler High School in 1977.
Greg attended Upsala College, earning a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, and Economics. Upsala is where he met Susan Hulit, first asking her to dance in the local pub and stepping all over her toes. Within 2 weeks of dating, Greg asked Sue to marry him; though, it would take more time than that (and an ice pack, probably) to fully win her over. Greg was an active member of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity, serving as both Pledge Master "Jack LaLanne" and Treasurer. After graduation, Greg worked in the financial sector, spending the majority of his career at Prudential Financial.
Greg was lucky enough to marry Susan Lynn Hulit on June 3, 1984 at West
Grove United Methodist Church in Neptune, New Jersey, with Rev. Stu Dangler officiating. Though he always told his daughters to marry for money first because he eventually wanted to live in a nice nursing home, he and Sue were married for over 40 years just for the love of it. Over the course of 4 decades, they raised 3 beautiful girls, Allison Heather, Kelly Elizabeth, and Meghan Leigh, and 2 grandchildren, Micaela "Maxx" Rae and Liam Gregory.
Greg loved making his family laugh. Silly songs, goofy dance moves, and
"fulfilling his parental duty of embarrassing his children" were staples in the
Forshay household. He exposed his girls to the cinematic masterpiece that is Star Trek and the true wonders of the Sci-Fi channel (giant ants, giant sharks, giant lizards…). Greg loved history and enjoyed mowing the lawn, possibly the only time he could get quiet in a house full of women! He ran 5 miles per day for nearly 30 years, always wearing his beloved New Balance running shoes. He was a member of Mt. Fern United Methodist Church, serving as Treasurer of the Board and supporting the church's Appalachia Service Project team.
Greg will be fondly remembered as a caring and kind soul that was always willing to lend a hand.
Remaining to cherish Greg's memory are his wife, Sue Forshay; children, Ally
Forshay, Kelly Felts (Lindsay), and Meghan Forshay; grandchildren, Maxx Felts and Liam Felts; mother, Iris Forshay; brother, Tim Forshay (Susan); sisters, Maureen Bruins (Dave) and Donna Forshay (Mickey); mother-in-law Margaret Shapiro (Jerry); brother-in-law Rob Hulit (Lisa); nieces, nephews, and countless friends, neighbors, coworkers, and loved ones.
Preceding Greg in death are his father, David William Forshay, and father-in-law, Robert Alan Hulit, Sr., as well as beloved pet dogs Shelby and Candi.
A memorial service will be held in the summer months in Beaver Lake, Hardyston Township, New Jersey. Information forthcoming. All are welcome to celebrate.
