Obituary

Franklin Noel Meadows, age 85, of Beckley, WV, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

Born April 28, 1939, to Virgil and Eileen (Thurman) Meadows. In high school, Frank was a star athlete, playing football, basketball, baseball and wrestling. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, he was offered sport scholarships to several schools but followed his high school sweetheart, Colette, to Marshall University. A proud graduate of Marshall, he also went on to graduate Valedictorian from the West Virginia State Police Academy, as well as the George Williams YMCA Executive Directorship.

Frank began his career as Physical Director at the Mansfield, OH, YMCA. From there he became the Cabell County Parks & Recreation Director, managing the Huntington, WV, Memorial Fieldhouse. While in Huntington, Frank also served as Community Relations Officer for the Cabell County Sheriff's Department.

In 1972, Frank and family moved to Wooster, OH, becoming the Director of the Wooster Parks & Recreation Department, where he remained for 23 years until his retirement. He served as Kiwanis Club President, on the Salvation Army Board of Directors, College Hills Retirement Board, the Eagle Scout Review Board and lastly a member of the Izaak Walton League of America. Maybe one of his proudest accomplishments, the Run & Roast celebrated a 32-year anniversary back in 2011. He also was a key part of bringing youth soccer to Wooster and that program thrives today.

After retirement, Frank and Colette moved back to West Virginia, calling Flat Top Lake home. Frank continued to enjoy his hobbies of hunting, particularly enjoying that time with his grandkids and hunting buddies; fishing and restoring classic cars.
