Obituary

Francis Paul Walter Jr., a man defined by grit, discipline, and an enduring love for his family passed away peacefully at the age of 99. A member of the "Greatest Generation," Paul's life was a testament to the values of hard work and steady determination.

Born on October 3rd, 1927, in Grove City, Pennsylvania to Leona Davis Walter and Francis Paul Walter Sr., Paul's character was forged in the discipline of his youth. Throughout his final days, he spoke fondly of his summers at the Walter family farm in Pennsylvania - memories that remained so cherished.

A standout athlete and a patriot, Paul was legendary. A graduate of Boardman High School in Youngstown, Ohio, he was inducted into the Boardman High School Hall of Fame for track in 1984. At Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, he continued to thrive as a pole vaulter on the track and field team, ultimately being inducted into the Miami University Hall of Fame in 2002 for his record-breaking performances.

His college years were interrupted by World War II, during which he served with honor in the United States Army. Stationed in Trieste, Italy, Paul served as a guard on the border of Slovenia and Italy.

Following his education, Paul worked as an Engineer at Packard Electric in Warren, Ohio, and later dedicated 25 remarkable years as a Plant Superintendent for Modern Industrial Plastics in Miamisburg, Ohio. Paul was also a proud member of the Lions Club, the world's largest service organization, where he served a term as President.

Paul found great joy in working with his hands - from his mastery of tools to his love for sudoku. He was an avid golfer who regularly played 18 holes until the age of 96.

He was preceded in death by his adored wife, Esther Walter, his parents, Leona and Francis Paul Walter Sr., and his brother Bernard Walter.

Paul’s greatest joy was his family. His legacy of hard work, discipline, and love is carried on by his son, Craig Walter (daughter-in-law, Rona Walter, and grandchildren Dane Walter, Haley McKenna, and Niki Walter); and his daughter, Amy Gravino (son-in-law, Marco Gravino, and grandchildren, Zach Gravino, Jessie Gravino, and Lexi Gravino Soni).

Paul’s memory will forever be a blessing to those fortunate enough to have shared in his remarkable life.

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at a later date
