Frances Cain
Trotman
Sep 22, 1952 — Jun 14, 2025
Frances (Fran) Cain Trotman, 72, of Creekside Drive, died Saturday, June 14, 2025 at MUSC. Born September 22, 1952 in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late William Ray Cain and Ruth Greer Cain. Fran was a 1970 graduate of Henderson High School and worked as an Administrative Coordinator for the Department of Psychiatry at MUSC from 1988 until her retirement in 2012.
Fran was always willing to lend a helping hand, especially at the Charleston Yacht Club where she was a member for over 30 years. There, she was active in the Auxiliary serving in various positions including President, Vice President, and Membership Chair. Her friends lovingly described her as "the queen of deviled eggs" and the yacht club kitchen as "her kingdom and she ruled there." Fran was always available when needed including volunteering in numerous capacities including Charleston Race Week and the annual Leukemia Cup. Her dedication to the club and the friendships she made there were an integral part of who she was.
Fran was also a dedicated neighbor and an involved member of the Lighthouse Point community. She was an avid seamstress in her retirement who will forever be remembered for her Happy Camper Crafts creations. She enjoyed camping with her friends. Loading up her camper and heading off on a new adventure brought her so much happiness.
Fran is survived by her sons, William J. Trotman, Jr. (Jennifer) of Sugar Hill, GA and Andrew C. Trotman (Brandy) of James Island, SC; four grandsons, Will Trotman, Walt Trotman, Dominic Trotman, and Elijah Trotman; and her honorary sons, Micheal and William (Bill) Astle. Additionally, she is survived by three sisters, Dianna Grant (Rick) of Ravenel, SC; Sue Parks (Larry) of Raleigh, NC; and Billie Frazier (Clay) of Oxford, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, William J. Trotman, Sr. Fran was a treasured member of the Trotman family where she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Paul. She is survived by her brothers-in-law, Harry Trotman (Ruth) and Jim Trotman, and her sisters-in-law, Rebecca Jones (Mike) and Kimberli Trotman.
Fran was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her laugh and sense of fun will be missed. Always ready to play a round of cards, watch a movie, or share her next delicious batch of Chex Mix, Fran leaves us with many dear memories. Her presence will be missed beyond words, but her legacy lives on in the network of people that she loved.
A celebration of life service is scheduled for July 29 from 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM at the Charleston Yacht Club. Donations may be made to Pet Helpers Adoption Center, 1447 Folly Road, Charleston, SC in memory of Fran and in honor of her much-loved companion, Macy.
