Flora Bishop Rigney of Riner, VA went to be with her Lord on February 7th, 2026. Surrounded by family at bedside, one of the most loving souls departed for the heavens from the Medical University of South Carolina Medical Center in Charleston, SC. Flo was loving and a very caring person who left us unexpectedly way too soon.

Flo was born on a beautiful Sunday, 04 June 1939, to Harley Robert and Edith Mae (Fisher) Bishop at their home in Radford, VA. She grew up in Radford and attended Radford High School where she found happiness in being a member of the Glee Club. She loved playing basketball and softball; her favorite sports team was the New York Yankees.

Flo was larger than life itself, a jokester at times with a mischievous smile. She enjoyed traveling and loved being outside in nature. She had a passion for oldies music, gardening, cooking, knitting, drawing Looney Tunes and Snoopy characters, and writing. She also loved her daily soap operas. Red and purple were her colors of choice with red roses and calla-lilies as her favorite flowers. She enjoyed the presence of family and friends. As a young child during the spring and summer she loved the simple pleasures of life centered around family time on her parents' back porch listening to her father tell stories and singing the Lord's hymns. During the colder months she would nestle in behind a pot bellied stove in her parents' kitchen while watching her Mother cook and sing. Flo was a natural leader; she followed in no one's footstep but her own. She treasured times with her brothers, sisters, cousins and friends playing in the fields of Radford.

Flo married her soul mate Jerry Edward Rigney and moved to Riner, VA where they called home for over 3 ½ decades. Her love for family and friends continued as she hosted many holidays and events at their home throughout the years creating many fond memories for everyone. On one occasion during Christmas more than 50 plus family and friends came together to celebrate at their home, she was the featured cook. Flo learned her way around the kitchen from her mother and became a renowned cook by family and friends. Her culinary abilities followed her to places of employment and she would quickly assume managerial duties in various food service venues. Prior to her retirement she was Food Service Manager at Radford University and was loved by her co-workers and university students. A very proud moment was when she gained her GED which was one of her life goals, but her proudest accomplishment was becoming a loving grandparent and later in life a great-grandparent. She showered endless love on her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many others too.

Flo's upbringing was closely associated with the gospel. She developed a strong calling to the church and servicing the Lord. Her path led her to Bethel Community Church where she became an active member as Treasurer, Chime Choir, Bible Study, and patron of the church spreading God's message. A passion of Flo's was daily readings from the Bible. The church was a warm comfort and was her second home created by life-long friends.

Flo is survived by her son, James Harley Wilson (Amber); step-daughters, Susan Marie and Wanda Joyce Rigney; her sister, Mary Ann (Bishop) Brache; and her brother, Joseph Donald Bishop; 3 grandchildren, Rebekka and Sara Wilson, Pierce Rigney; 4 great-grandchildren, Abbi and Lili Wilson, Blythe and George Rigney; many many nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends and her beloved fur-critter house companion Koa.

Flo was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Edward Rigney; her parents, Harley Robert Bishop and Edith Mae (Fisher) Bishop; brothers Robert Isaac Bishop and James Howard Bishop; and many beloved pet fur-critters.

A Remembrance Ceremony for Flo will be held at Bethel Community Church, 1060 Lovely Mt Dr, Radford, VA on Saturday, May 2nd at 1:00 PM. Flo was a strong supporter for the Disabled Veterans Society, Shriners Children, and Bethel Community Church; in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to these organizations.
