Obituary

Eugene Geoffrey "Gene" Hultin, 84 of Charleston, SC passed away to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am at Fort Johnson Baptist Church, 1473 Camp Road, Charleston, SC 29412, on Friday July 26, 2024. The family will receive friends starting at 9:30am until 10:45am.

Gene was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 7, 1940, to Elmer Eugene Hultin and Gladys Helen Hultin. After high school he served in the US Navy for 9 years as a submariner. After leaving the Navy he became a fireman for James Island Fire Department for several years. He later pursued Law enforcement serving as a patrolman, detective and narcotic agent for Charleston County over a 10-year period. He finished his career as a stevedore for several companies on the waterfront. He loved to fish, hunt, and ride his Harley. Above all he loved to work in his wood working shop. He recently celebrated 30 years of sobriety as the result of being a devoted AA member. What he valued most of all was his relationship with his Lord Jesus and served him through his church at Fort Johnson Baptist as a deacon. He loved his God, family, and country, and served them well.

Eugene is proceeded in death by father, Elmer Eugene Hultin, Mother, Gladys Helen Hultin, Brother, Allan Curtis Hultin, Brother, Richard Barry Hultin, Sister-in-love, Inger Strom Hultin, Sister-in-love, Jean Patricia Leasure and Brother-in-law, Clinton Roy Leasure. He is survived by previous wives Janet Viard Hultin and Jeanette Patsy Streets, his son Donald Bruce Hultin and daughter-in-love, Linda Mosier Hultin, daughter Tracy Hultin Moore, Stepdaughter, Christine Louise Hopkins (Willliam) and Stepson, George Monroe Smyly of Charleston, SC. He has 8 grandchildren, Matthew Hultin (Jessica), Shelly Hultin, Justin Moore, Taylor Moore, Briggs Fort (Alton), Carter Hopkins, Amber Smyly, and Brent Smyly. He is also survived by his brother, Robert James Hultin and sister-in-love Frances Hultin of St. Petersburg FL, sister-in-law, Cilla Hultin of Dallas, TX. Niece – Frances Hultin Sineno (Joe), Nephews – Robert James Hultin, Jr., Colm Lee (Meagan), Stephen Roy Leasure (Denise).

Gene's Family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all of the healthcare providers from the Veterans Administration Hospital and also, those from Empyrean Hospice Care.
