Esther Walter, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and grace. She was 94 years old.

Born on July 11, 1930, in Youngstown, Ohio, Esther was the daughter of Harold "Hal" Walpert and Jessie Walpert. A proud graduate of South High School in Youngstown, Esther pursued her passion for education, first attending Baldwin Wallace College and later graduating from Bowling Green State University.

Esther dedicated her life to teaching, spending 32 remarkable years inspiring young minds at Normandy Elementary School in Centerville, Ohio. Her devotion to education was honored in 1995 when she was inducted into the Centerville Education Hall of Fame for Outstanding Teachers — a testament to the countless lives she touched with her warmth, patience, and unshakable belief in her students.

A woman of strong faith and deep community ties, Esther was a longtime member of Southminster Presbyterian Church in Centerville, where she served faithfully as an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and Senior High Advisor. After moving to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, in 2008, she brought her spirit of leadership to Palmetto Presbyterian Church, where she founded the Amazing Grays, a fellowship group for senior members that continues to thrive.

Esther was a proud member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and an active sister in the P.E.O. Sisterhood, first with Chapter CH in Dayton, Ohio, and later with Chapter Z in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Her commitment to service extended beyond her professional life and into every community she touched.

Known for her vibrant energy and adventurous spirit, Esther found joy in golf, reading, volunteering, baking, and — most memorably — her legendary bargain hunting skills. With a sparkle in her eye and a fistful of Kohl's Cash, Esther could out-shop even the savviest of deal seekers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold "Hal" and Jessie Walpert, and her siblings, half-sister Jane Carlson and half-brother Earl Rothgeb.

Esther's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Francis Paul Walter; her son, Craig Walter (daughter-in-law, Rona Walter, and grandchildren Dane Walter, Haley McKenna, and Niki Walter); and her daughter, Amy Gravino (son-in-law, Marco Gravino, and grandchildren, Zach Gravino, Jessie Gravino, and Lexi Gravino).

Her legacy is one of compassion, laughter, service, and love — values she passed down to her children, grandchildren, students, and all who knew her. Esther's memory will forever be a blessing to those fortunate enough to have shared in her remarkable life.
