Elizabeth "Betsey" DeWitt Protsman, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away peacefully at home June 13, 2024, surrounded by family.

Betsey was born in Detroit, MI, on December 19, 1940, to Frederic and Margaret DeWitt. She married the love of her life, Thomas (Tom) Theodore Protsman, on September 2, 1961. Following their marriage, Tom entered the Air Force, and they were stationed at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico followed by Lajes Air Force Base in the Azores, Portugal, where their two oldest daughters were born. Following the Air Force, the family settled in Vandalia, Ohio, and welcomed their third daughter. While raising her family, Betsey was an active member of the community, volunteering in the public schools working with special education students, Goodwill Corporation, Karl's Coats for Kids, and the Dayton Art institute among others. She was devoted to her grandchildren and relished spending time with them. Tom and Betsey retired to Mt. Pleasant in 2006. When not with her grandchildren, Betsey enjoyed tennis and the beach, and an active social life through Snee Farm and Mt. Pleasant Newcomers. She also continued her volunteer work through Professional Employer Organization (PEO) and Seaside Farms.

Betsey is survived by her husband, Tom; children, Libby Dixon, Marcey Halloran, and Katy Bradley; her grandchildren, Connor Dixon (Erin Hill), Maddie Shank (Ryan Shank), Elaine Halloran, Chase Dixon, and Hunter Bradley; and her great-granddaughter, Charlie Elizabeth Shank. She is also survived by her sister, Marnie Park, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and brother (Frederic DeWitt, Jr).

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 31, at Palmetto Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to National Kidney Foundation.
