Elizabeth Fraser Douglas Engelhardt, RN, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 1 ^st , 2023.

Elizabeth, "Liz", was born on September 5 ^th , 1938 in Northampton, England to Robert and Irene Douglas, both of Glasgow Scotland.  Liz and her younger brother, John were born and raised in Northampton where their father was a physician, thus beginning her love of medicine and helping others. After graduating from The Hawnes School in Bedfordshire, she attended nursing school in London, earning her R.N., and starting her nursing career at London's Middlesex Hospital.  Her love of travel led Liz to Baltimore, Maryland, where she began working at Johns Hopkins.  She would soon meet her future husband, Sam Engelhardt, a medical resident at Johns Hopkins.  They were married in Baltimore on June 13, 1966.

"Dr. Sam" and "Miss Liz" moved to Atlanta where she began to raise her family and provide love, food, and laughter to all.  She was funny and loyal to everyone lucky enough to earn her generous friendship. After Dr. Sam's retirement, they moved to Montgomery, Alabama where she brought her warmth and wit to her beloved in-laws and an ever-widening circle of friends.  As an active member of the Church of the Ascension, her faith helped her through the loss of her husband in 2017.

Her remaining years were spent in Charleston, S.C. where she remained active playing bridge and raising money for the Elms Nursing Group, and enjoying the company of her children and grandchild.  Her death will be felt by her children S. Martin Engelhardt of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Sara E.G. Engelhardt of Richmond, VA.  She also leaves to mourn: daughter in law Rochelle Gerber, grandson Sam L. R. Engelhardt, brother-in-law Bonner Engelhardt, sisters-in-law Marlow Engelhardt Peters (John) and Harriet Engelhardt Johnston (Frank), in addition to extended family in England, Scotland and Australia.

At her request there will be a small graveside service, and in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Hospice of Montgomery, AL or Roper Hospice Charleston SC.
