Doris Crooks Benke of Mount Pleasant, age 88, widow of Daniel Joseph Benke, Jr., died on November 1, 2025. She was born on September 28, 1937, the daughter of John Bernard Crooks, Sr., and Lillie Mae Pendergrass Crooks of Kingstree. She is preceded in death by her husband, a son, and two brothers.
Doris graduated from Kingstree High School and Carolina College of Commerce. She worked as a legal secretary in Charleston and Mount Pleasant, and lived in Mount Pleasant for more than 60 years.
Doris was a long-time beloved member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, where she had served as Deacon, Elder and Sunday School Teacher. Recently she moved her membership to Summerton Presbyterian Church in Summerton where she served as Elder and Women's Moderator. She also was an active member of the Pink Dogwood Garden Club in Summerton.
Surviving are her daughter, Julie Benke-Bennett (Rick) of Summerton, and her son, David Bernard Benke (Monica) of Summerton, three brothers, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation at Summerton Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall on Friday, November 7 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Service will be private.
