• The Citadel : Briefly attended the historic military college right here in Charleston, shaping his disciplined approach to life.
• Military Service : Served in the Air Force Reserves based in California during the pivotal era of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Darby didn't just hold jobs—he built legacies with a passion for business that mirrored the innovative spirit of his father, C. P. Meyer, and was shared by his younger brother, Stephen T, and oldest brother, Rodger.

• Deflect-o Corporation : Managed sales through representative organizations across the US and Canada. Products included air deflectors, dryer venting systems, literature pockets, and display racks commonly found in homes and offices.
• Interlude Night Club : Co-founded a popular teenage hotspot with a close friend.
• Acrylic Jetted Tubs : Partnered with Bob Fairchild to manufacture and sell luxury tubs to wholesalers in Northern California.
• Sandpiper Dry Cleaners : Owned and operated this staple business in Savannah, Georgia.
• Real Estate Support : A faithful partner and assistant to Renee, he loved to ready listings, maintain a shiny car, and was a dedicated volunteer for Carolina One charitable events.

A Life of Passion & Purpose

If you asked Darby about his hobbies, he would likely give his trademark answer: "Work, work, and work!" He believed in the dignity of labor and instilled a "Have a job!" mentality in his family—not out of necessity, but out of a desire for them to do their absolute best.

Yet, for all his business travel and professional drive, Darby's true north was his family. He was famous for cutting business trips short, always racing back to spend those extra hours at home with those he loved.
