Cindy Anne Gilbert of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2026.

Cindy was born in Inglewood, California (before the Rams moved there and it became cool), on October 24, 1961, to Phyllis Lucille (née Jacobs) and Robert Edwin "Bob" Gilbert.

Having recently retired to Summerville, she spent most of her life on the Westside of Los Angeles, where she attended Mar Vista Elementary, Daniel Webster Junior High School, and Venice High School.

She began her career at the University of California, Los Angeles, more than 40 years ago and retired as an Assistant Director in the OƯice of Contract and Grant Administration (OCGA) in 2022. She later returned to OCGA in a part-time capacity before retiring fully in December 2025.

Cindy was said to epitomize what a leader should be: she would stand ahead of you to guide you and work alongside you when you needed help. She inspired colleagues to help one another.

In addition to her family, many of Cindy's most enduring friendships were with current and former faculty and staƯ members. Those who knew her well were familiar with her deep love for her family—especially her nieces, Sara and Christina—as well as her passion for sports. She could carry on a conversation about almost any sport, but her greatest loyalty belonged to the Los Angeles Dodgers, followed closely by the Los Angeles Kings.

Cindy was preceded in death by many beloved relatives, including her parents; her brother, Robin Keith Gilbert; and her grandmother, Bessie Lucille Jacobs.

She is survived by her sisters, Eileen Gilbert, JoAnn Gilbert (Chico Garcia), and Shawn Gilbert (Charles Ragland); her nieces, Sara Garcia Mabry (Michael Mabry) and Christina Garcia Hodgson (James Hodgson); her faithful dog, Hunter; and, most significantly, her great-niece, Gianna Grace "Gigi" Hodgson, who brought her immense joy.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Charleston Cremation Center. Cindy will return home to Los Angeles, where she will be interred at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach, California.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Los Angeles.
