Obituary

Billy Hoke, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, SC (previously a resident of Georgetown, SC for 50 years), passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on June 16, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Wilena Hoke.

Billy was born in Morgantown, WV on April 20, 1930, son of the late Edgar and Stella Hoke. He graduated from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV in 1952 with a degree in Forestry. Billy met Wilena during their college years at WVU and they married in December of 1952. His career took them to several cities across the South-Richmond Hill and Waycross, GA; Aiken and Georgetown, SC and Wilmington, NC, before returning to Georgetown.

Billy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Georgetown, SC and enjoyed helping with their annual barbeque. He retired after 35 years from his career in Forestry. Billy had many interests including building and racing go-karts, sailing, landscaping, making delicious barbeque in his smoker, fresh and saltwater fishing with Wilena in the mountain streams of NC and at the beach and creeks of Pawleys Island. They spent many years traveling together including the mountains of West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee, spending time in the California wine country, New Orleans and the surrounding Cajun Country. He always made time to plan and research trips that were not only fun and exciting for his family, but also educational with regards to the history of the destinations. He also enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen and preparing gourmet meals for his family.

Billy was a loving husband and a wonderful father. He was a compassionate caregiver for Wilena in her later years when her health was declining. He is deeply missed by his family and all who loved him.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Ada Belle Carson and a brother Tom Hoke. He is survived by his daughter Janice (Charles) Butler of Hampstead, NC; daughter Claire Hoke of Mt. Pleasant, SC and son William (Nicole) Hoke of Seattle, WA, three nieces and five nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1605 S Fraser St, Georgetown, SC, 29440.
