Betty Jane Green Phillips Wilkerson, 89, went to be with the Lord on December 30th 2025 at Roper Saint Frances Hospital in Summerville, SC.

She was born June 26th, 1936, in Myrtle Beach, SC, to Thomas "TA" and Opal (Thompson) Green. She attended school in Myrtle Beach and Charleston, SC, graduating with the first night-school class of Goose Creek High School and then Rice Business College in the 70s. She married her husband, John Edward "Bill" Phillips, in 1954, and they lived in Charleston, SC, later settling in Goose Creek, SC, and having 3 children.

She is survived by her devoted children: daughter, Johnnie "Joni" Taylor, of Goose Creek, SC; son, Edward "Eddie" (Jennie) Phillips, of Salisbury, NC; and daughter, Penny Phillips, of Goose Creek, SC; her brother, Thomas "TAG" (Debra) Green, of Summerville, SC; and her sisters, Sylvia (Aaron) Hyman of Johns Island, SC; Taffie (Earl) Chapman, of Moncks Corner, SC; and Joy (Randy) Wade, of Summerville, SC.

Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, John, Heather, Penelopie (Mike), and Katie (Dustin); great-grandchildren, Kasey, Alicia, Kurt, Hayli, Michaela, Mikey, Kaden, Valerie, and Alicia C; great-great-grandchildren, Jace, Jamie, Braelyn, Aubry, Jacobee, Evelyn, and Eliana; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.

Betty is met in Heaven by her father, Thomas Alvah "TA" Green; mother, Opal Lemavis (Thompson) Green; husband and father of her children, John Edward "Bill" Phillips; husband, Glenn Wilkerson; sister, Patricia "Patsy" Brinson; grandson, Philip Jones; her favorite cousin, Gloria (Green) Alfaro, her best friend, Barbara "Bobbie" Williams, and other loved ones.

Betty was a truly wonderful person, always happy, with no guile. Her love for the Lord and her family is indescribable. She made every family member know how much she loved them and that God loved them, too. More than anything, she wanted all of her loved ones to love and serve the Lord. No matter what you did, she made you believe you were the most talented and special person in the world. For the past 7 years, she spent every day writing her prayers for all of her family and others in her journals. She experienced life with unwavering happiness, grace, and enthusiasm that made an impact on everyone who met her - she was unforgettable. When with her, there was always laughter and love! She was delicate and prissy but known for her antics and silliness at the same time, especially with her siblings! She had a unique way of thinking and, as we said, her thinking was "in her own box".

Her hobbies over the years were vast; she was an artist of every type (watercolor, oil, pastels, pen & ink, sculpture, wood carving, glass mosaics, pottery, calligraphy, her precious Prismacolor pencils, and more). She sketched out many of her childhood memories on paper so we could have a visual of her experiences; they are hilarious.

She loved to reminisce mostly about her family but also her many experiences in life; the ocean (she grew up in the Myrtle Beach ocean waves and spent her life enjoying the ocean as long as she could), travelling (especially to Israel and Europe), learning to speak/read/write Hebrew, baptism in the Jordan River, floating in the Dead Sea, swimming with stingrays, teaching primary school at Goodrich, shooting a snake, slalom waterskiing, mountain cabin adventures, speaking Pig Latin on the Glacier Express, dancing with Bobbie, working for her brother, dining out with extra salad dressing!, eating crab legs and oysters, and most of all, being loved so deeply by her children and family! We recently sat down with her to list her hobbies and fun activities throughout her life, and there were so many (archery, basketball, skating, embroidery, tatting, quilting, master tailor, piano player, guitar, singing opera, planting a few gardens, building a grape arbor, canning, jewelry making, scrapbooking, crochet, seagrass basket making, childhood games, and a cruise with family to name a few.)
