Alvi Tabor Twing, III6/18/1948 - 9/4/2018

Alvi Tabor Twing III, known as "Terry" to his mother, father, brother, and sisters; "Al" or "Alvi" to his families and his friends, died on September 4th, 2018 after a hard fought war with Leukemia. He was born in Martinsville, VA to Alvi Tabor Twing, Jr and Marjorie Ann Mason on June 18, 1948.He spent his younger years in Pennsylvania until he lost his beloved mother as a boy. His family then relocated to Camden, SC.

In 1966 he graduated from Camden High School and soon joined the US Air Force. He was stationed at Norton AFB in San Bernardino, CA where he married Christina Trad and had two daughters, Christina (Chrissy) and Kamlee (Kammy).

He served honorably in Da Nang during the Vietnam War as Staff Sargent with Flight Controls, Instruments, and Electronics. Later he was stationed at Holloman, AFB in Albuquerque, NM, and K.I Sawyer, AFB, in MI.

His professional expertise in aircraft and aviation allowed him to travel the world. During his career he was employed with General Dynamics, Rockwell International, and Boeing. Proudly he was given the title of Aeronautical Engineer, despite his absence of a college degree. He was project manager for some of the most storied aircraft in our military:the F-15 & F-16 Fighter Jets, OV-10, B-1 Bomber, and the Stealth Fighter.

His travels also brought him to various cities in the United States and abroad to Cairo Egypt, and also Maracay, Venezuela, where he married Maria (Lola) Urribarri. In their time together they had two daughters, Jessica (Jessy) and Jennifer (Jenny).

Apart from his military and avionic career, he was passionate about golf, and proved to be extremely proficient in the sport, to say the least. To him it represented life:honesty, self-discipline, skill development, problem solving, and engineering

In his later years, he sought out a more simple life in nature. He travelled and volunteered at various national parks until he came upon Cape Romain, SC. There he dedicated his time and energy to the refuge that he loved so dearly. He was an invaluable asset to the National Wildlife Refuge.

His life was filled with many trials and tribulations. However, it was also marked by many achievements, that include four strong and proud daughters.

His wish was to have his ashes scattered near the Gulf Stream and travel the world through the ocean's currents so that he may visit all the places on earth he never saw in his lifetime.

He is survived by his brother Stephen W. Twing, of Frostburg, MD, Pam Twing-West of Rock Hill, SC, Nancy Twing-Bryant of Asheboro, NC, his daughters Christina Benton of Cypress, TX, Kamlee Wardlaw of Mustang, OK Jessica Maggio of Lancaster, CA, and Jennifer Twing of Fargo, ND.He boasted of five grandsons and three grand daughters.He will be missed by many friends near and far!
