Alene Cecile Brefka, 57, of Summerville, SC peacefully passed away on Sunday February 23, 2025. She was surrounded by her beloved family, whom she adored dearly.

Alene was born in Schenectady on December 10, 1967 to Kenneth and Bernice Brefka of Niskayuna, NY.

Alene worked a variety of jobs over the years, most recently in the travel industry working at Albany International Airport for Envoy/American Airlines, GAT/JetBlue, and even TSA.

Her hobbies included her love for traveling to anywhere you could find a beach. Her favorite spots were North Myrtle Beach; Hilton Head Island; Grand Cayman Islands — where she got to swim with dolphins, her favorite animal — and St. Thomas.

Alene was also actively involved with the American Cancer Society, offering assistance to others on their journey to overcome it.

Alene is survived by her husband Walter Hoyt, of Summerville; her children Jaclyn Grace of Edinburgh, Scotland and Nikolas Dobies of Niskayuna, NY; sister Alissa Chilla of Poolesville, MD; her mother Bernice Brefka also of Niskayuna; and many other close friends and relatives.

Alene was predeceased by her father, Kenneth P. Brefka.

The memorial service to celebrate Alene and her many life accomplishments will be held on Saturday March 15th, 2025 at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, 1803 Union St., Niskayuna, NY at 10 a.m.
